Findings Researchers harnessed datasets spanning two decades to examine how two species of Arctic wildlife beluga whales, also known as white whales, and ringed seals are adapting to their changing habitat. The research focused on the area around Svalbard northwest of Norway which is experiencing rapid impacts from climate change and particularly a large collapse in sea-ice conditions in 2006 that has continued to the present day. It is reliably learnt that following international pressure Pakistan also sought permission to open another east-bound route from Karachi, to enter India near Ahmedabad, via Muscat (for flights towards South East Asia and beyond). India, however, rejected this proposal as there was no reciprocal permission for traffic exiting the country in the opposite direction. Pakistan says it attempted to open one eastbound and…

Findings So-called stratocumulus clouds cover about 20 percent of subtropical oceans, mostly near western seaboards such as the coasts of California, Mexico and Peru. When they disappear, Earth warms dramatically, by about eight degrees Celsius in addition to the global warming that comes from enhanced greenhouse concentrations alone. A temperature increase of that magnitude would melt polar ice and lift sea levels tens of metres. The last time the planet was that hot, some 50 million years ago during the…
