Food and Agricultural Organization said. Findings Population growth requires supplies of more nutritious food at affordable prices, but increasing farm output is hard given the “fragility of the natural resource base” since humans have outstripped Earth’s carrying capacity in terms of land, water and climate change. About 820 million people are malnourished. News The increasing number of extreme events is causing dieback of Arctic plants or ‘browning’ across Arctic regions, a study has found. Findings Scientists studying the Arctic which is warming twice as fast as the global average – found that plant dieback following these events could significantly reduce the ability of Arctic ecosystems to help combat climate change. Previously, scientists had found that increasing summer warmth in the Arctic was encouraging vegetation to grow, turning areas green. Beyond News The sarcophagus, an ancient coffin, was one of two found earlier this month by a French-led mission in the northern area of El-Asasef, a necropolis on the western bank of the Nile. Findings A relatively small proportion of the finance goes towards efforts to enable the most vulnerable to adapt. On a comparable basis, the global climate finance flows increased by 17% in 2015-16 from 2013-14 levels.
