Recently notification for UPSC Civil Services Examination 2019 was released. Lets go through it and changes (if any) in context of last year. Aspirants who wish to join services like IAS, IPS, IFS etc can apply to appear for the Civil Services Exam (CSE) 2019. UPSC CSE Preliminary Exam will be conducted on June 02, 2019 (Sunday). It was on JUNE 3 2018 (no remarkable change).

1. Total number of vacancies 896  (it was 782 last year)

2.Plan is same as that of last year.

3. Last Date for Application 6PM, 18th March {Never wait for last minute. Do at the earliest}

6. 10% Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS)

Only those not eligible for reservation under OBC, SC or ST can claim reservation under EWS.

Economically Weaker Section – Criteria

  1. Should not be covered under OBC, SC or ST
  2. Annual gross FAMILY Income should not be above Rs. 8 Lakhs
  3. Definition of FAMILY ^ includes self, parents, siblings below the age of 18, spouse, and children below the age of 18.
  4. Types of income included – Salary, Agriculture, Business, Professional etc.

Things you need for applying UPSC online:

  • You need to upload Photo, Signature, and Photo ID card
  • Before start filling up of Online Application, a candidate must have his/her photograph and signature duly scanned in the jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 40 KB and must not be less than 3 KB in size for the photograph and 1 KB for the signature.
  • Candidate should have details of one Photo ID Card viz. Aadhaar Card/Voter Card/PAN Card/Passport/Driving Licence/Any other Photo ID Card issued by the State/Central Government. The details of this Photo ID Card will have to be provided by the candidate while filling up the online application form. The candidates will have to upload a scanned copy of the Photo ID whose details have been provided in the online application by him/her. This Photo ID Card will be used for all future referencing and the candidate is advised to carry this Photo ID Card while appearing for Examination/Personality Test.

How to apply for UPSC Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2019?

Candidates are required to apply online by using the website https://www.upsconline.nic.in.

Candidates will be required to complete the Online Application Form containing two stages viz. Part-I and Part-II as per the instructions available in the above link.

The Online applications (Part I and II) can be filled from 19th February 2019 to 18th March 2019 till 18:00 Hrs.

Fees – Rs.100 for General/OBC (Male)

The candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs.100/- (Rupees One Hundred only).

SC/ST/ Female/Persons with Benchmark Disability candidates are exempted from payment of the fee.

The fees can be paid either by depositing the money in any branch of State Bank of India by cash, or by using net banking facility of State Bank of India or by using any Visa/Master/RuPay Credit/ Debit Card.

UPSC Syllabus – Civil Services Preliminary Exam

The Civil Services Preliminary exam comprises of two compulsory papers of 200 marks each (General Studies Paper I and General Studies Paper II). The questions will be of multiple choice, objective type. The marks in prelims will not be counted for final ranking, but just for qualification for the main exam.

UPSC SYLLABUS FOR PAPER I – (200 MARKS)
DURATION: TWO HOURS

  • Current events of national and international importance.
  • History of India and Indian National Movement.
  • Indian and World Geography – Physical, Social, Economic Geography of India and the World.
  • Indian Polity and Governance – Constitution, Political System, Panchayati Raj, Public Policy, Rights Issues, etc.
  • Economic and Social Development Sustainable Development, Poverty, Inclusion, Demographics, Social Sector initiatives, etc.
  • General issues on Environmental Ecology, Bio-diversity and Climate Change – that do not require subject specialization.
  • General Science.

UPSC SYLLABUS FOR PAPER II- (200 MARKS)
DURATION: TWO HOURS (QUALIFYING PAPER; JUST NEEDS 33% MARKS)

  • Comprehension.
  • Interpersonal skills including communication skills.
  • Logical reasoning and analytical ability.
  • Decision-making and problem-solving.
  • General mental ability.
  • Basic numeracy (numbers and their relations, orders of magnitude, etc.) (Class X level), Data interpretation (charts, graphs, tables, data sufficiency etc. – Class X level).
